"Calais, Baraques Beach. Blériot-plage. Jules Ribeaucourt (1866-1932)"
Rare and beautiful animated view of the "Plage des Baraques" also called "Blériot-Plage" in Sangatte near Calais. Very close to this beach 115 years ago on July 25, 1909, Louis Blériot took off to successfully cross the Channel for the first time. Since then, planes have evolved and so has the beach... The view is in a slight low angle which accentuates the height of the semaphore, even if as is very often the case with painters, this one took some liberties in its general composition. The atmosphere of relaxation and the joys of the beach around 1900 is very well rendered. See the site: https://histopale.net/les-archives/autour-de-calais/bleriot-plage/ At the end there is a postcard (see my screen copy in photo 8) very close to the view of this painting by J.Ribeaucourt.
