Object description :

"Bust Of Caesar - Roman Emperor In Marble, Signed Ph Garbeille, 19th Century"
Bust of Caesar - Roman Emperor in white marble painted in red and green at the level of the armor and the laurel crown that he wears on his head, on a green marble base.

This sculpture is signed by the Marseille artist Philippe Garbeille, with an atypical career since after studying in Marseille then in Rome, he decided to settle in the United States, in New Orleans, in 1842.
He will find success across the Atlantic thanks to his busts: among the most important commissions, are Saint Francis and the Virgin and Child (1846) for the Saint-Louis Cathedral, as well as the portraits of Zachary Taylor (1847), President James Knox Polk (1848) and Andrew Jackson (1848).
He died in New Orleans in 1853.
