"The Virgin Of The Chair After Raphael, Large Oil On Canvas From The 1820s - 91cm X 91cm"
French or Italian school of the early 19th century, the Virgin with the chair, carrying on her knees the child Jesus with Saint John the Baptist. The original of this painting by Raphael dates from his Roman period (1508-1520) currently exhibited at the Pitti Palace in Florence. Oil on canvas from the Restoration period, around 1820, in its original frame in gilded wood with gold leaf, square format with round view from the Empire Restoration period. Our painting is probably a souvenir of the Grand Tour, an aristocratic educational journey across Europe made by young men from the highest classes of European society from the 17th to the 19th century. If the subject of the Virgin with the Chair was much interpreted and copied with more or less talent, our canvas is a beautiful copy of good quality, well done. Its very beautiful frame with round view makes it a very decorative piece of great decoration. Ideal to complete a neoclassical decoration of the 19th century with one of those small details that create an authentic atmosphere. Very good condition, on its original canvas, painting and frame cleaned by our restorers. Frame dimensions 95 x 94.5cm Canvas dimensions 80 by 81cm
