Large ROUND pewter DISH with a plain and raised wing, engraved in the center with a crowned armorial motif charged with a tower and held by a lion on the left and a horse on the right, with a castle and two areas of ermine speckles, accompanied by the motto "AVANCEZ".
On the wing a round cartouche with the letter H surrounded by the motto "Honi soit qui mal y pense", allusive of Edward III, Henry VII and the Order of the Garter.
Hallmarking:
1° - control with crowned X
2° - quality hallmark: crowned rose / MADE IN (LONDON) / rose.
Diameter: 42.2 cm.

Beautiful traces of forging on the reverse (see arrow on the picture).
The universities of technology in Gothenburg, Lund and Stockholm were founded in 1829 with donations from William Chalmers, a wealthy Gothenburg merchant whose motto was "Advance".
