"Watercolor Signed Alphonse Brick"
Watercolor representing the portrait of Pasha Thami El Glaoui signed by the painter Alphonse Birck (1859-1942) is a French painter. Born in Metz, Alphonse Birck moved to Paris at the age of sixteen. His training was mainly at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs. Very young, Birck showed his works. His first steps in this artistic world were taken at the Salon des artistes français in 1877, with the exhibition of a painting of his father's portrait. After numerous exhibitions in different Salons, Birck was attracted, like many artists of his time, by the Orient. It was the conquest of the Orient by writers such as Chateaubriand or Flaubert that launched the orientalist movement, in which Birck found himself. He left France for Algeria. Alphonse Birck's paintings translate what the painter sees every day: his daily life and that of his Algerian entourage. For this, he deals with landscapes and portraits. His work is clear, very little dark color, to translate the power of the sun in this African country. Original frame in carved wood
