Nativity figures from Naples, especially Christ children, are a central part of the traditional Christmas nativity scene. Known since the 18th century, these figures are characterized by their elaborate workmanship and detailed design. The figures wear artfully crafted garments made of real fabric that are sewn by hand. The fabrics, often silk, brocade or velvet, give the figures a realistic and elegant appearance.

The finely worked Christ shows a gesture of blessing. Head, hands and feet are made of terracotta. The eyes are made of glass.
