"April: Medieval Shearing, Beautiful Limoges Grisaille Enamel, 19th Century"
Beautiful enamel on copper, pastoral subject, rectangular in shape, grisaille painted with gold highlights, by a Limoges workshop during 19th century. Inspired by engravings or miniatures from medieval guest books, it is April in Limousin, (In the Rustican, a medieval treatise on agriculture, the month of April is dedicated to shearing sheep.) Shearing was then done in a seated position, legs tied. Clothes are medieval, sky starry with gold.
On back of the convex copper, a black fondant.
Good condition, without flaws, no restoration.
