"Oil On Panel By Tom Curr"
Very fine oil on panel depicting a child carrying a bouquet of flowers in a cloth which she delicately offers to a cow. Gilt frame. Beautiful lines and very realistic. Work signed lower left Tom Curr (Thomas Curr 1887-1958). Artist and draughtsman, born in Edinburgh, where he continued to live. He was educated at Daniel Stewart's College, the former Life School at the Mound and the University of Edinburgh. After the life school he went to the Edinburgh College of Art when it opened in 1909, where he met his wife, who taught drawing. After serving in the army during the First World War, Curr returned to the printing firm McLagan and Cumming, where he had entered as an apprentice artist, eventually becoming general manager. Much of his early work was in black and white, but in later years he exhibited annually at the RSA and other exhibitions, finding many subjects in the countryside. Work purchased by the Scottish Office, London. Curr was a staunch Baptist, active in the life of Edinburgh, where he was bailiff.
