"Vere Statue, Nigeria"
Statue representing a maternity standing on slightly bent legs. The belly is rounded, the breasts and the sex are present. The rather square face, displays a satisfied, serene air. The back of the body, the neck and the hair are dotted with holes that were once filled with seeds. We know little about Vere statuary. The best known are in bronze. Those in wood are much rarer. We can assume that this one was linked to a fertility cult.
