Max Albert Carlier was born in Tourcoing, France, to Belgian parents in 1872. He was a painter of flowers and still lifes, genres, animals, nudes and interiors. Carlier worked extensively in Brussels and also travelled extensively in Italy. He also lived for a short time in Brittany, France. He is today known as one of the best still life painters of the Belgian school and his paintings are highly sought after today. He is listed in the "Deux Siecles de Signature d'Artistes de Belgique". Today, his paintings are in many important private and public collections around the world, including the Ostend Museum, Belgium.
