"Louis XV Period “à La Régence” Chest Of Drawers, Paris, Circa 1740"
Louis XV period chest of drawers "à la Régence", Paris circa 1740. This elegant chest of drawers has beautiful proportions and interesting dimensions, it is a work of Parisian cabinetmaking dating from the first half of the 18th century, from the beginning of the Louis XV period with a form called "à la Régence" with its 3 rows of drawers, its curved sides and front as well as its pinched uprights. Built on an oak and softwood frame (side and front of drawers), this chest of drawers opens with 4 drawers distributed over 3 rows. It is mainly veneered in monochrome rosewood veneer, thus retaining a Regency frieze, with on the drawer fronts a connection in 4 closed sheets called "diamond point" surrounded by wide satin veneer fillets, the drawer edges treated in quarter round are veneered with rosewood, this chest of drawers is a neat piece of furniture as evidenced by the sides which are veneered with 4 beautiful sheets of rosewood veneer connected like the drawer fronts and also surrounded by wide satin fillets. This as retains its period bronze trim, well complete with handles, lock entries, falls, descents, shoe and apron. The marble top although broken and restored has been preserved, it is therefore its original marble, it is a Red of France which is very nicely molded with a groove and a corbin beak. This piece of furniture is interesting for its aesthetic with well-controlled curves and its superb condition, it also presents a beautiful authenticity, some restorations of veneer said to be of use as well as an entirely original frame. Dimensions on the marble: Height: 85.5 cm Width at the back where the chest of drawers is widest: 115 cm Depth at the deepest in the middle: 58 cm
