"Pair Of Candlesticks From The Chateau d'Eu, Attributed To The Late Louis-philippe Period"
Pair of torches from the Château d'Eu, attributed to Denière. Louis-Philippe period. Rare pair of gilded bronze torches from the collections of the King of the French, Louis-Philippe, dating from the July Monarchy, this pair of torches presents the well-marked character with "large acanthus leaves which blossom on the feet and on the bobeches formed by the flare of the upper part of the stem" the was also gadrooned and is frequently used during this period. We find the decoration of our torches on models provided by Jean-François Dernière, who delivered models for the Château des Tuileries on February 8, 1839. The two torches that we offer are both marked on the plinth of the crowned EU for the Château d'Eu, private residence of King Louis-Philippe in Normandy, current Louis-Philippe museum, they also bear an inventory number which follows. The period and the decoration of the torches allow us to attribute these candlesticks to Jean-François Denière. They are in perfect condition. We acquired them in private hands in a collection where they had been kept since the 1990s.
