"Pair Of Half Fire Pots In Gilded Carved Wood, Louis XIV Period, XVIIth XVIIIth Century, Rare"
Rare pair of half fire pots Carved, gilded and painted wood faux marble France, Louis XIV period Second half of the 17th century Height: 40 cm (Restorations and small losses) Very beautiful pair of fire pots in fir, the body decorated with a post frieze, the upper part with a flame. An element of an architectural altarpiece These fire pots are a testimony to the large architectural altarpieces developed in the 17th century following the Catholic counter-reformation. The altarpieces, one of the aims of which was the education of the faithful, combined painting, sculpture and architecture. The fire pots were fixed to the top of the altarpieces. I have attached a photo of the altarpiece of Saint-Jean-Baptiste from 1675 in the church of Saint-Thégonnec in Finistère where you can see the location of the fire pots. Free delivery for France
