Sublime tray on feet in English silver metal (Webster Wilcox). A pretty fleshy decoration on the edge and chiseled in the center decorated with palmettes and acanthus leaves and shells. For information: The company was founded in 1865 as Wilcox Britannia Co by Jedediah and Horace Wilcox, Charles Parker, Aaron Collins and Hezekiah Miller and others. The company was active in Meriden, Connecticut, with salesrooms at 6 Maiden Lane, New York. The name was changed to Wilcox Silver Plate Co in 1867. In 1869, Parker & Casper Co, a specialist in silver-plated hollowware, was acquired. Wilcox Silver Plate Co was one of the first companies to become part of the International Silver Company in 1898. Immediately thereafter (1899), Middletown Silver Plate was closed and production moved to the Wilcox plant. Superior Silver Co was a registered trademark of Middleton manufactured by Wilcox. The "half circle" mark was introduced in 1921 and registered in 1923. The plant was closed in 1941 due to the shortage of metal during World War II. After the war, Wilcox patterns were manufactured at other International Silver Company plants.
