Object description :

"Augsburg 1810-11, Pair Of “trumpet” Candlesticks, Silver Gilt, Phillipp Bruglocher Solid Silver"
Very rare pair of so-called "trumpet" candlesticks in vermeil (solid gilded silver) from the Empire period. They are hallmarked with the guarantee hallmark of the city of Augsburg for the year 1810-11 and with the hallmark of master goldsmith Philipp Friedrich Bruglocher. Born in 1743, he became a master quite young in 1771 and had a very long career of more than half a century because he died in 1826. A goldsmith of great renown, he received prestigious orders, among others from Catherine II of Russia who ordered several terrines, coffee pots, etc. for the famous "Kharkov service", which is today shared between the Hermitage, the Kremlin and several private collections. The vermeil is in perfect condition. No trace of wear. Candlesticks of this "Trumpet" shape are typical for the second half of the eighteenth century. They are mainly found in Switzerland and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In Augsburg production they are rather rare. Their foot is slightly curved to stop the melting wax from flowing onto the desk or dressing table on which they would be placed. They are probably travel candlesticks. The pair weighs 370 grams.
