"The Farmer - Bronze 1930-50 By Soichi Sugimoto"
Good condition - dark brown patina - signed. Sculptor active between 1928-60 in the prefecture ofShizuoka (between Tokyo and Nagoya). The prefectural building displays four Buddhist statues by the artist. In 1928 he created a statue of Seiichi Kokushido, the monk who founded the tea ceremony. His work is essentially composed of traditional or Buddhist subjects, and portraits.
