Cast, embossed, chased silver chalice – France, early 19th century, by Favier Frères, goldsmiths This chalice rests on a rounded circular foot, profiled with an ogee, decorated with a large frieze of gadroons. The terrace is crowned with radiating channels, with a cross drawn in chased on its lower part. The stem has a knot in the shape of an inverted pear, with a gadrooned shoulder, flanked by two heavy rings decorated with twisted ropes. The cup, gilded on the inside, is set in a saucer decorated with rays repeating the decoration of the terrace. Please note: wear of the gilding on the outer part of the cup. Note: Judging by its shape and the sober decoration of this chalice, it is possible that it is one of the first models developed by the Lyon master goldsmiths of the Favier Brothers, notably André Favier, who stamped his first hallmark in 1827. This is a model of a chalice from this famous goldsmith's house that is rarely found today.
