"Alfred Savoir: "bluebeard's Eighth Wife" With Dedication From The Author "
Amusing 1921 edition of the play by Alfred Savoir, a famous boulevardier, The Eighth Wife of Bluebeard, bearing a dedication from the author to Marcel Achard, the most famous of his colleagues. Alfred Savoir (1883-1934), born Posnanski in Lodz, Poland, studied law in France, but very early on developed a passion for theater, which was rather humorous, even satirical. If his plays are still performed, they enjoyed international fame, and this one was adapted twice for the cinema in the United States, by Sam Wood in silent mode with the star Gloria Swanson, then by Lubitch in 1938 with, excuse me for saying so, Claudette Colbert and Gary Cooper. The present edition tells us that the first one had a prestigious cast, with Charlotte Lyses (Sacha Guitry's wife) Jules Berry, at the Théâtre Michel. The binding is charming with an elegant vellum spine sown with stars and stamped with the title. The covers covered with pretty hand-made paper In very nice condition (perfect binding), but the paper is without precious character, simply published as a cabbage leaf of the time. One presents more Marcel Achard, who was the dedicatee of this present pamphlet, prolific author of the interwar period, who reigned over the Boulevard Theater, and over French comic cinema
