Louis Cabié, a renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, traveled throughout the great southwest throughout his life. A student of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation in the manner of the Barbizon school can be found, he would transcribe the simplicity of picturesque French landscapes until his death. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, captivating valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that he would know how to enhance with a vital contrast.
From 1890, Louis-Alexandre Cabié crisscrossed the banks of the Vézère in all weathers and in different seasons. It was in the commune of Les Eyzies in the Dordogne that he spent a large part of his time, and where he married for the second time in 1894. Several hundred works have been created on the banks of this river, most of which are not located by their owners. Our small watercolor of a perfectly balanced construction is a view of late autumn, with a gray sky, revealing the watercourse bordered by the cliff overlooking the village of Les Eyzies. No houses are represented, certainly to give the work this feeling of immersion in nature that Cabié knows how to perfectly transcribe.
Do not hesitate to ask us for the iconography of the other paintings representing this place.
