"The beach of Lecques and the Tower of Madrague in Saint Cyr sur Mer"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower left,
Beautiful work by the Marseille painter Marius Barthalot which represents a view of the port of Lecques and the Beach of Madrague in Saint Cyr sur Mer in the Var.
In the foreground, we can see a fisherman on his boat moored at the beach pontoon. In the background, we can see on the left the Tower of Madrague as well as in the background the Bec de l'Aigle in La Ciotat.
A student of Dominique Magaud in Marseille, then of Alexandre Cabanel, Léon Bonnat and Casimir de Saint-Pierre in Paris, Marius Barthalot exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français from 1885 to 1934 where he received numerous awards for his luminous paintings. The artist produced views of Marseille, Avignon, Martigues and Les Lecques.
We can compare our work to another painting by the artist, entitled "Barques sur la rive", kept at the Museum of Fine Arts in the city of Marseille.
Nb: An old small restoration, without impact, is to be noted on the back.
Dimensions: 38.5 x 55.5 cm without frame and 53 x 70 cm with its original frame in gilded wood.
