Huge seascape by Emile GODCHAUX (1860-1938) size 100cm x 73cm painting to clean a small snag at the top right. Oil on canvas signed bottom left Born in 1860 and perhaps from the family of the sculptor Roger Godchaux. He is often confused with Alfred Godchaux, a painter from Lyon who at the same time painted on similar themes and in a fairly similar style. His favorite themes were ports, cliffs of the Normandy coast, Atlantic beaches full of fishermen and boats, mountainous landscapes taken on location, in the Pyrenees and Savoy, Venice. His skies are tumultuous, his characters in fishermen's or peasant costumes at the end of the century.
