A half-length portrait of excellent quality and condition, possibly unfinished. Labelled on the reverse with the name of Lieutenant George Austin Woods who, as a captain in the British Royal Navy and a self-taught painter, travelled throughout Australia and New Zealand painting portraits of his fellow crew members and the Aboriginal people where they stopped.
