Object description :

"Pewter Wine Pitcher - Lorraine, Circa 1700"
Small baluster-shaped pewter PITCHER with flared foot and throat, and acorn thumb.
Height: 19.8 cm.
LORRAINE, Second half of the 17th century or very early 18th century

This piece of Lorraine typology was obtained by the longitudinal casting technique, also called "shell casting", in use until the 17th century and the very early 18th century. In one of the photographs, we can see the vertical weld made after bringing together the two previously cast "shells". This technique was abandoned at the very beginning of the 18th century in favor of molds allowing radial castings, then showing horizontal "seams" visible on the inside and sometimes also on the outside.
