Large hood, type of Corporation Hood for Harvest Festivals but this one with an unexpected decoration: Crowned Virgin and Child to serve in parade of the votive festivals.
The manufacture, all by hand, a good work, assembled and riveted, strongly hemmed edge, 4 copper loops and leather straps, a superb heraldic high relief with fleurs-de-lys on backsplash (which must have been the emblem of place or that of corporation), and around this superb figure of Madonna on centre, the entire exterior surface is pampered: engraved, stamped with large scrolls in relief, see the photos.
85cm x 44cm. Weight: approximately 8kg.
Period mid-19th century, Rhine Valley, or Moselle, Germany or Alsace
