"Italian Faience Bottles Two 19th Century Italian Pilgrim Flasks Almost A Pair"
A lovely pair of late 19th century pilgrim flasks of Italian origin, from Central Italy and dating to approximately 1880, realized in a very thick terracotta, the flattened ovoid shape painted with abstract blue, green and brown decoration on whitish ground, painted just on frontal side. A set of two artworks. They are almost a pair since the two loops are in a different direction. One is a bit smaller and has different color decoration.
The back is not decorated. One shows a label of a shop in Rapallo Liguria and a small chips on the basement.
The vases are shaped in what’s known as a Pilgrim Flask or bottle, flat on both sides and two loops for the shoulder cord; They are in good age related condition with signs of wear, old restoration, see the repair at the base of the loop. See closed up picture detail. They come from a private Milanese collection.
