Our attribution to Carl Ludwig Hackert is based on several points, firstly on two engravings by Carl Hackert engraved with Jean Antoine Linck in 1782 and kept at the Geneva Library (additional photographs). They present a view of the city taken from the same point of view of Saconnex d'Arves. It should be noted that this point of view is not usual, artists almost systematically preferring to represent the city with Mont Blanc. The use of gouache as well as the treatment of the landscape, trees, transparencies in the sky and mountain ranges are quite characteristic of the artist's work that can be seen in other of his creations.
