Antique religious painting from the first half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting Saint Vincent Ferrer, a famous Dominican preacher born in Valencia in 1350. The Saint identified so much with his mission that in his sermons he called himself the angel of the Apocalypse. For this reason too, he is often depicted with splendid wings while pointing to the sky with his arm, because all graces come from up there and not from him. The other typical iconographic elements are the tonsure, the robes of the Dominican order and an open book, the Gospel through which the Saint invites conversion. A painting of great pictorial quality, in fact the masterful use of the chiaroscuro technique, the refinement of the portrait and the extreme elegance of the drapery are to be highlighted. Painting that presents assonances with Venetian painting in the context of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta (1682-1754), lacking authentication. 19th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Overall artwork in excellent condition. Sight size H 117 x W 89 cm.
