Biography:
Isidore Jules Bonheur (1827-1901) is both a painter and an animal sculptor. He first studied painting with his father, then at the École des Beaux-Arts. He opened up to sculpture, which he practiced at a very young age. He participated in the Salons until 1899 and won a medal at the 89 Salon. He was made a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1895. He is the author, among other things, of the stone lions which adorn the staircase of the Palais de Justice, Place Dauphine in Paris and of the monument in memory of Rosa Bonheur in Fontainebleau.
