"Serpentine Dog After Jennings' Dog"
Serpentine Dog After Jennings' Dog circa 1850 The Jennings Dog, also known as the Duncombe Dog or the Alcibiades Dog, is a marble sculpture of a seated dog. It may be a representative of the breed of dogs from the land of the Molossians, in Epirus. This work found in Rome may reproduce a Hellenistic bronze. It owes its name to the British antiquarian Henry Constantine Jennings who acquired it in the late 1750s and transported it to England. In 2001, the British Museum appealed for donations to acquire the sculpture h20 x 17 x 12
