"Very High Quality Louis XVI Style Mahogany Bedroom. Signed Schmit, Paris"
Louis XV style bedroom in high quality mahogany with beautiful gilt bronze frames. The bedside tables and the dressing table/secretary are topped with onyx marble. The bedroom is probably a creation of the Maison Schmit, founded by the famous cabinetmaker Frédéric Schmit. Frédéric Schmit was one of the greatest French cabinetmakers of the second half of the 19th century, active in Paris on the rue de Charonne from 1856. He received gold medals at the Universal Exhibitions of 1878 and 1889 in Paris.
