Tulip tree vase
Porcelain painted and enhanced with gilding
Trace of signature in iron red
Dimensions : H. 20 (cm.)
Paris, circa 1830
A curious and rare vase with a strongly flared neck. Richly decorated with alternating sinister floral morifs and bird medallions. A delicate touch, the eggs in the basket are represented in relief. An explanatory note was slipped into the vase, and despite the absence of most of the maker's signature, it is possible to link this vase to his production, particularly through the Etruscan palmettes in red-orange, which can be found on many Greek Revival pieces.
Denuelle in Paris
In 1819, two partners, Cadet de Vaux and Denuelle, took over an old factory near Crussol. Three years later, Denuelle remained alone. With imitation tortoiseshell backgrounds and matt gold ornamentation, he was successful enough to obtain the patronage of the Duchess of Berry. In 1834, production was transferred to La Seynie in Limousin, but the pieces were still decorated at the Paris depot now located on Boulevard Saint-Denis.
Condition report: very minor wear, exemplary freshness.
