Pair Of Terracotta Children, Brown Patina, After Clodion. 19th Century.

Beautiful pair of graceful children, in terracotta with a brown patina, after Claude Michel dit Clodion (1738-1814); sculptor of Nancy origin and then became Parisian he was a pupil at the age of 17 of the sculptor Adam (the eldest) his uncle, then at the age of 21 in Paris of the great J.B. Pigalle.
Clodion was noticed and sought after for his works representing characters relating to Greek mythological themes, sculpted mainly in terracotta, appreciated terracotta; some works were executed in bronze which are extremely rare, others well reproduced in the 19th century during the rediscovery of the artist forgotten since the Empire especially. 
This beautiful pair of terracotta children with respected and balanced proportions is the faithful expression of the Baroque theme of the neoclassical transition around 1770 that Clodion expressed a lot in his work.
One of the two children, a young girl, carefully carries, holding it in a large drape, a bird's nest with its eggs; the young boy carries with him, while being just as attentive, in the same drape, beautiful vine leaves and three bunches of grapes.
Tall sculptures made in the 19th century magnifying the expressions of the two characters after Clodion; both are in very good condition without cracks; some traces of friction causing a gray patina on the varnish and tiny chips on the base.
