Germany or England Snuff box Mother of pearl and pomponne mount Louis XV period, circa 1750 H. 4 x 8 x 6.5 cm Rare snuff box with cage mount (the rarest) in pomponne and sculpted mother-of-pearl. It is rectangular in shape, the lid has a very beautiful engraved decoration inside of putti in a grotesque decoration; and a superb stamped decoration representing a naide in the center in an architectural decoration on a gold-spiked scaled background. An object of virtue This snuff box perfectly embodies the precious object that any wealthy person had to possess. Rich in its decoration but also in the use of several materials such as mother-of-pearl, pomponne and tortoiseshell, it is an object of exquisite refinement. Appearing at the end of the reign of Louis XIV, first in silver, the snuff box will experience immense success in the spheres of high society of the 18th century. Used, collected, shown, this is an essential collector's item. A German production The French snuffbox was a huge success and inspired, at the time, the creation of centers throughout Europe. Stylistically inscribed in the Rococo by the richness and abundance of the decoration, it is in Germany that these objects saw the light of day.
