"Pelletier (dom Ambroise) - Nobility Or Armorial Of Lorraine And Barrois. Thomas, 1758."
PELLETIER (Dom Ambroise) - Nobiliary or armorial of Lorraine and Barrois, in the form of a dictionary. Where are the arms engraved & surrounded by very beautiful cartouches & placed next to each of the articles which concern them. Nancy, Chez Thomas père et fils, 1758; in-folio, XXXVIII-838 pp. + 4-page supplement + 4-page errata, full marbled calf binding of the time, spine decorated with 6 ribs, title piece in red morocco, edges painted red, a split joint between the head and the first two ribs. Original edition of Nancy from 1758; the second volume remained in manuscript (it is kept in the Nancy library), and it is given in facsimile with color plates in the three-volume reissue of 1974. Dom Ambroise Pelletier was a Benedictine monk born in Portieux in 1703 and died in 1757. He was the priest of Senones. Very important work of Lorraine genealogy. The printing of the work was interrupted by the death of the author, which is the reason for the mention of volume one printed on the half-title page. This book contains more than 1000 engravings of coats of arms, some of which are colored at the time. This is a very rare work, they very rarely come onto the market and this copy is in excellent condition despite the defects noted.
