"Nina De Jacob Epstein Polish Sculptor "
A superb bronze by Polish sculptor Jacob Epstein published in the exhibition catalogue on the artist. Yaakov Epstein, Israeli, born in Poland, 1921-2006. Yaakov Epstein was born in Cremnicz, Poland. His father was a sculptor and woodcarver. In the late 1930s, Epstein studied art in Lvov and created several wall reliefs there. In 1941-1946, during World War II, he served in the Red Army. After the war, he returned to Lvov, then part of Western Ukraine, where he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts and worked as a restorer of architectural sites in Ukraine. In 1957, Epstein moved to Poland and two years later immigrated to Israel. He settled in Bat Yam and was one of the founders of the Institute of Plastic Arts in that city. Epstein created many realistic sculptures and expressionist busts. Among his best-known works are the Hof Hacarmel memorial (1968), a monument to Janusz Korcak and a bust of Maimonides in Bat Yam.
