VALTON Charles (1851-1918) "Wounded Lioness" Bronze proof with a brown patina shaded with green, signed on the front of the terrace. The feline is depicted dying, pierced with arrows. Total height: 32 cm Length: 50 cm x Depth: 16 cm Charles Valton is a French animal sculptor trained in the workshops of Antoine-Louis Barye, with whom he sculpted the famous group entitled "The Two Stallions", and Emmanuel Frémiet. He participated in the Salon from 1868 to 1914 where he won a medal in 1875 and 1885. He was also rewarded for his work at the Universal Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900.
