Painter and engraver, he became a student of Eugène Delâtre at the Beaux Arts in Paris. He painted many landscapes in France in Paris and the provinces, Manche, Brittany, Riviera, Pyrenees, Beauce, Basque country...and orientalist scenes in Morocco. But he also painted portraits and especially nudes as for this painting.
