"Indigo Blue And Rouennerie Shaped Silk Skirt - France Circa 1850"
19th century France Beautiful skirt in blue and silver shaped silk dating from the middle of the 19th century. Wide skirt bottom with five strips of sewn silk corresponding to the volume of a small crinoline cage. The very rigid and very beautiful quality silk is indigo background with scrolls of flowers. The bottom of the skirt and the side slit for a pocket are edged with indigo blue checked linen rouennerie. The waist assembly is later at the end of the 19th century, for a pronounced volume on the back. The condition is exceptionally good for this testimony to French folk art.
