"Fishermen in the Bay of Cannes"
Oil on cardboard,
Signed lower left,
Beautiful work by the painter from Cannes, Louis Pastour, which depicts fishermen in the Bay of Cannes on a summer's day.
In the background, we can make out the old town and the Suquet district.
The large red sail, sharp as a wing, its typical boats, the light of the sky, the sea... immerse us in the air of old Cannes from the Belle Époque.
A worker by day and a student in the evening classes at the School of Decorative Arts in the city of Nice and then Paris, he exhibited for the first time at the age of 45. In 1902, he founded the Association of Fine Arts of Cannes with a group of art-loving workers, of which he was the general secretary. Through this association, the region's painters were highlighted by an annual exhibition.
A painter of light with a total mastery of colors, Louis Pastour used the knife technique to bring his works to life.
Recognized by critics as a poet painter because of the names of poems they give to his works: Fête de soleil, Reflets d'or, Gloire au matin …
Dimensions: 13 x 21 cm without frame and 20 x 28 cm with its modern frame in black and gold wood.
