Superb antique silver monstrance monstrance. This stunning piece was made in France in the 19th century,
Goldsmith Alexis Renaud (1831-1840) Paris, and is distinguished by its large size and exceptional quality. Monstrance bears hallmarks to the foot and in some of the sunbursts which testify to the origin and quality of the silver. The rectangular foot rests on four curved feet in relief, the front of which is decorated with a silver gilt applique depicting the Lamb of God. On the back we can see the symbol of God in relief and engraved, a triangle radiating against a cloudy sky. The stem features a classic knot with two cherub heads spreading their wings upwards and framing an image of the Sacred Head on the front and the Tablets of the Law on the back. Above the knot we see the magnificent Sun standing on a cluster of wheat stalks and with the lunette framed by clouds and cherub heads. The monstrance is crowned with a Latin cross in relief.
