"A Boxwood Okimono Depicting Shoki With Oni"
Boxwood okimono depicting Shoki, the legendary oni hunter, while capturing some evil spirits. The sculpture exalts the strength and determination of Shōki, depicted with a large knotty stick and a sack on his shoulders. The sack, torn, lets out several oni with grotesque shapes, intent on fleeing.
Period: Meiji late 19th century.
Dimensions: 37 x 22 x 15 cm.
Condition: Excellent condition. There are slight natural openings in the wood compatible with the material. Specifically: two natural openings in the wood on the back of Shoki; an opening on the right side of the bag; an opening on the end of the fabric belt.
