"Vendée Cabinet Called “standing Man” In Burl Walnut, 1870"
Cabinet vendéen called also « The standing man » in ronce de noyer, 1870

According to legend, this piece of furniture was used as a hiding place for the civilian population during the French Revolution to escape from the revolutionary soldiers.

The standing man is a narrow cabinet with two overlapping doors separated by drawers. Close to the bonnetière, it was widespread in western France.

The two drawers are mounted in a dovetail ensuring perfect strength. This is how they can be opened daily and contain many objects. They slide perfectly.

This unit has two overlapping doors. The open doors reveal a shelf. ll is possible to store dishes or clothes since these same shelves have been cleaned thanks to a preventive biological treatment avoiding any odor.

Doors and drawers each have a lock and key. The entrances are in finely chiseled scrap metal. They are of beautiful workmanship. The keys are in working condition. The set perfectly matches and gives a coherent look to the furniture.

The keys and locks have been in place since the furniture was created.

The doors are decorated with scrolls.

The upper cross-section of the furniture is inlaid with marquetry. The pieces of wood of different species cut and assembled meticulously allowed to realize a subtle decor of decorative drawings, geometric patterns.

This cabinet is made from quality materials and built using ancient techniques: studs and mortises weld the wood pieces together and reinforce the solidity.

The back of the furniture is equipped with solid wood panels so very resistant.

The base of the furniture rests on four very stable feet. The two rear feet are straight, the two front feet are so-called “biche feet”.

The cabinet is topped with a cornice made of mouldings overhanging each other forming a decorative crown.

This piece of furniture is the result of a very fine work of cabinetmaking, made by a passionate. It charms us with its elegance, its lived, its robustness.

It is a piece of furniture with character. It is useful in a kitchen, a living room. Functional, with just the right proportions, the cabinet will naturally find its place in our modern homes.
