"Johann Carl Loth (1632-1698), Circle Of - Allegory Of Temperance"
THIS SEPTEMBER ENJOY FREE DELIVERY IN THE EUROPEAN UNION* AT MONTBARON GALERIE - Oil on canvas. - A German painter who lived in Venice at a very young age, Carl Loth embraces the colorful and joyful sensuality of the city's painters. This allegory of temperance, which is very reminiscent of the painting of Eleazar and Rebecca that we reproduce with the photographs of the painting, is very particular in its iconography: the fact of temperance is pictorially represented by a flame that suddenly goes out in a bucket of water. The bridle bit, a traditional attribute of cardinal virtue, also appears on the other side of the character. Dramatic chiaroscuro, vibrant colors, including characteristic Venetian blues, and undone but agile work are the main technical elements of a master painting. - Dimensions of the unframed painting: 84 x 112 cm / 93 x 121 cm with magnificent old molding, probably from the end of the 18th century. - Comes from a private collection of old paintings from Barcelona. - Good general condition. Minimal defects. Old relining. - Galerie Montbaron attaches a technical sheet established by a qualified art historian with all its lots.
