Steins studied from 1973 to 1977 at the Academy of Applied Arts of the City of Maastricht. He worked for four years in various workshops in Germany and at the Gieterij Sijen. Around 1980 he started as an independent visual artist and was mainly active as a sculptor. He makes both outdoor sculptures and smaller works. With bulls, horse torsos and bronze nudes that seem to dance like a feather on graceful pedestals, Wim Steins enchants his viewers with his sculptures. The contrast between static-dynamic and abstract-figurative always intrigues him. Monumentality and dynamism are the central points of his work. This is a modern sculpture in which human values in form and movement trigger discussions. His sculptures have been exhibited for years in the sculpture garden De Pruimengaard in Wijk bij Duurstede, among others.
