"Jalisco Statuette, Tala Tonala, Western Mexico 300 Bc To 300 Ad"
Superb "Sheep Face" type statuette, it presents a seated priestess holding a potion vase in one of her hands and the other symbolically placed on her neck. She wears a free-form necklace, "tambas" ornaments, on the ears, a wide skirt and a turban. The pointed ears and nose probably evoke a wild cat, emblem and totem animal of the clan. Her sweet and ecstatic expression indicates that she is under the effect of a hallucinogen contained in the vase. Full terracotta, polychrome, very slight surface wear and marks of time, no restoration, good general condition of conservation, see photos. Jalisco, Tala Tonala, Western Mexico, 300 BC to 300 AD.
