Beautiful work by the Swiss painter Casimir Reymond which represents a view of the Sainte Victoire mountain in Aix en Provence taken from Saint-Eutrope.
The artist Casimir Reymond seems to have visited the city of Aix en Provence certainly attracted by the painter Paul Cézanne during the year 1932 as mentioned in our work and in 1937 by making a view of Aix en Provence from Cézanne's studio.
A Swiss artist, he uses a palette of colours specific to his region, without using bright colours like artists from the South of France. A painter and sculptor, originally from Vaulion, in the Vaudois Jura, Casimir Reymond studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva.
He is responsible for a sculpture of Mary in the St Paul church in Vienna and many of his sculptures that adorn the city of Lausanne.
He stayed in Paris from 1929 to 1932 where he participated in several Parisian exhibitions. He received the Wilhelm Gimmi Prize in 1969 shortly before his death.
From 1932, he taught at the École cantonale de dessin et d'art appliqué de Lausanne, which he directed in 1933 and 1934 and from 1945 to 1955.
Nb / The white spots visible on the photos are due to his glossy varnish. Dimensions: 26.5 x 43 cm without frame and 35.5 x 51 cm with its gilded wooden frame.
