It is a way of living, and of thinking, of observing people, translating the "inner landscape" of things. It is recreating and describing, observing the reality and pain of others. It is a way of participating in the world. When I am not painting, I have the feeling of wasting my time. I like to think that my paintings have their own life. When they leave the studio, they no longer need the painter. They speak for themselves." Dalva Duarte was born in Brazil in 1949. Coming to Europe in 1973, via Portugal and Spain, she trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1982 she moved to the United States, while keeping a studio in Paris, then London. She has won the Grand Prix de Rouen in France, the Prix Moretti in the United States and has exhibited at the Grand Palais in Paris, Art Miami, Coral Springs Museum in Florida, Musée du Luxembourg, Musée de Rouen, as well as in private galleries in the United States, France, Brazil and England. In 2013 the Château-musée de Tournon dedicated a retrospective exhibition to her. For the third consecutive year, she has been invited to the international exhibition Nordart near Hamburg.
