"Gilded Wooden Office Stool, 19th Century."
Office stool, France, circa 1880, in gilded beech. This rare rectangular office chair in richly carved and gilded wood is characteristic of the "Greek" style. It has a frieze of posts framed by a row of pearls on the belt and on the side crosspieces. It rests on four tapered fluted legs with asparagus ending in laurel leaves; in the upper part, the legs are decorated with oves. At the back, the seat consists of a low curved backrest decorated with a frieze of heart stripes. A similar stool is kept at the Musée des Arrs décoratifs in Paris.
