"Napoleon III Pill Box Enameled With Birds And Flowers, Vermeil"
This lovely hexagonal box is enamelled on all sides with a semi-relief naturalist decoration on a nuanced brown background giving a tortoiseshell effect.
The top of the lid depicts two yellow and blue birds frolicking in flowering branches.
The six sides of the rim are decorated with semi-relief enamel flower garland motifs, all different.
The bottom is decorated with a bouquet of flowers in the same technique, surrounded by a circle of gilded fleurons.
Enamels on copper, hinged vermeil mount with a laureate garland motif. Interior in vermeil.
Vermeil not hallmarked, tested with a touchstone.
Please note:
Restoration in our workshop of the enamel on two corners of the box.
On the bottom of the box the gilding of the circle around the bouquet is slightly worn.
Very good condition, closes perfectly.
Napoleon III period, circa 1860.
