This piece measures 150 cm wide, for a length of 302 cm.
In perfect condition, this carpet has fresh and bright colors.
Originally from the Chahar Mahal (Shotour) region in Iran.
It is a Bakthiar with medallions in the shape of adjoining mandorlas, very different from the usual square or rectangular structures.
These mandorlas spread over the entire field, a motif that is found from time to time on this style of carpet.
The mandorlas are decorated with cypresses, stylized flowers, and stylized trees of life.
The colors are mainly old pink, mauve, purple, moss green, and blue highlighted with brown added with a touch of faded red, orange and curry color. The field is composed of fifteen lines of three or four alternating mandorlas, skillfully colored and knotted with a very great application of symmetry. Note the quality of the wide border and its oak leaf pattern, symbolizing the water cycle, eternity, separated by large stylized flowers.
Velvet, fringes, selvedges all in superb condition
This type of Bakthiar carpet is not the most common, it remains a style of carpet called nomadic, using colors specific to the repertoire of these populations who crisscrossed Persia.
This carpet is particularly neat in its decoration and it presents a certain transition between the nomadic carpet and the city carpet.
These pieces are resistant, knotted with very high quality wool from the mountains.
Despite their name and unlike different types of carpets, the Bakthiar are not knotted by the members of the Bakthiar tribe, the Bakhtiaris, but by another population today sedentary.
The Chahar Mahal region produces the Bakthiar carpet but also the lesser known Yalame, more recent in manufacture but with a very good reputation.
It is a finely tight carpet, with a superb decoration and of high quality.
This carpet has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
